Monday's Inspiration: Velvet Blazer

Velvet is one of the things you either love or hate. I know that velvet is surely not for everyone - I used to be one of them, I couldn't imagine wearing something in this fabric at all until I realized how casually festive this material is. I tried on the velvet blazer from Zara (photo 1) the other day and it felt very comfortable and it immediately upgraded my look. I'm not really sure if it's worth buying it in my case since velvet still feels pretty unfamiliar to me, but I definitely like to look at stylings with velvet elements. In my opinion there are exact two different application areas for this unique fabric - blazers and sofas.

I am my hair


My hairstyles, cuts and colors over the past 4 years..
Long hair was always my thing until a year ago - I decided to cut off almost 20cm when I was in Seoul for my exchange semester. I was so sick and tired of my ultra long hair (look at the photo where I'm wearing a beanie) and I was seeking a more sophisticated and edgy look. So right after my arrival in Seoul I went to the hairdresser. But to be honest I couldn't let them chop off all my hair right away - yes, I was nervous and insanely scared. I was afraid of getting a new look and for any reason I always thought that short hair wouldn't suit me. So I let my hairdresser trim off 10cm to start my new look. By the end of my stay in South Korea I was getting so fond of my new hair that I cut off more and more and even dyed my hair. The hair trimming was therefore rather a process than one radical step. I dared to change my look and I'm so glad that I did it since I'm not the type who changes hairstyles that often and in a drastic way. Of course, from time to time I long for my long hair but for now I'm pretty content with the length. Right before I came back to Zurich I toned down the hair color a little bit and I'm thinking about getting a new shade..

Sunday's Beauty Post: The best smelling shower gels

I don't know about you but I am one of those types who can't shower quickly. Whether I'm taking a bath or just a shower, I always take my time. One of the best parts of it is that I like to keep things interesting olfactory-wise according to the season. For a long time now I've been obsessed with Le Petit Marseillais shower gels. They keep coming up with new fragrances so I always switch it up. Still can't forget the delicious apricot-basil scented one I used during summer... so fresh and energizing. Right now I'm using the Chestnut & Pistachio one (see below) and am once again totally smitten. Can't wait to try the ones above with Cocoa butter & Sesame as well as Hazelnut Oil & Gelée Royale. With those ingredients they can't be anything but delicious!

I'm off to pamper myself a little this Sunday evening and wish you already a good start to the week..!

Sunday's Recipe: Cinnamon Buns

It's been a long while since my last "Kitchen Heals Soul" post but I've been spending a lot of my free time camera-less in the kitchen, trying out new foreign dishes and baked goods. Initially I was going to make cinnamon buns last weekend but - as it's always the case - unexpected things far less pleasurable than biting into warm delicous delights happen that need to be attended first. 

Nothing, not even the almost three hour preparation of these buns could hold me back and I was determined to bake them this Sunday. I had saved this recipe via "Cupcakes & Cashmere" a while ago and followed it exactly, even to measuring and cutting the right size of rectangle. Sometimes I get caught up in stupid details...

If you're used to cooking/baking with US measurements I'll suggest to use the original linked recipe with the instructions. Here's the list of ingredients converted into grams.


250 ml milk
420 gr flour
100 gr sugar
1 large egg
2 envelopes of dry yeast
1 Tsp. salt

150 gr brown sugar
60 gr butter
2 Tbsp. cinnamon

115 gr cream cheese
100 gr powdered sugar
60 gr butter
1/2 Tsp. vanilla extract

These were my first homemade cinnamon buns and the recipe yielded two dishes so I froze the remaining buns without glazing them. I'm sure I'll need the comforting cinnamon & sugar on a cold, over-worked morning to heal my soul...
