Friday's Beauty Post: MAC Glamour Daze

Now that I'm done with all the assignments for this semester I slightly changed my make up equipment to finally get in holiday mood - I used two eyeshadows which are very different but work together very well. I used the glittery black one as a thin eyeliner and applied the light pink-violet shimmering one on the lower lashline to make my eyes look brighter. The black eyeliner ensures the right amount of drama whereas the pearly pinky highlighter on the lower lashline provides a rather romantic look. Glamour Daze is the mini holiday collection from MAC and sums up the spirit of the festive season. And so does the names of the two shades:

Saidi's Abu Gamal

A while back I talked to you about my first Saidi shawl which I still love to wear to add an interesting touch to my outfits. The model I'm wearing in these pictures has a less prominent print but the deep red color is so beautiful that I was drawn to it immediately.

Saidi offers 20% off your purchase until the 25th of December. If you're looking for a unique multi purpose shawl I'd say this is a great opportunity.

Coat: Zara
Shawl: c/o Saidi, model Abu Gamal

Same old

When it gets very cold I often end up being dressed very casual and comfortable in dark pieces, as it was the case on a particularly freezing and windy day last week. I am having quite some fun with my manicures though as you can see in the second picture. When everything else I'm wearing feels kind of blah, the colors on my nails provide the much needed change.

Monday's Beauty Post: Silk Cocoons

Silk for your skin - this is my first time trying out silk cocoons to exfoliate and massage my face. It feels very soothing and it's fun to explore new options of anti-aging products. The pure silk contains the protein sericin, which helps to prevent skin aging.
How to use: Place the cocoon on to the end of your fingertip and damp it with warm water. Then gently massage your face or spots of your face. The cocoon can be used 2-3 times.

You can get the beauty silk cocoons at the twist.shop!
(all beauty products from the twist are organic!)

Anyone already using beauty silk cocoons?

Monday's Beauty Post: Hair Colorant

I needed a break from school and work and decided to dye my hair this weekend! It's been quite a while since I wanted a dark cherry shade. After doing some research I went for Garnier dark blueberry, the result: A myriad of shades! Depending on light color, incidence of light, daylight - the color scheme goes from complete black to violet, reddish-brown and cherry. First I was pretty overwhelmed, but now I really like the variety of shades. It's not as flashy as it seems, it's rather discrete. Since I have no experience with red coloration I don't know if it's the norm, but if you like the playful character of it then I really recommend this product. Minus points are the pretty intense smell and excess hair color when you wash your hair though..

Nevertheless, with all these different tones I won't get tired of the coloration easily :)

Monday's Inspiration: Velvet Blazer

Source: i.a. columbine, everyone loves fashion, collage by me

Velvet is one of the things you either love or hate. I know that velvet is surely not for everyone - I used to be one of them, I couldn't imagine wearing something in this fabric at all until I realized how casually festive this material is. I tried on the velvet blazer from Zara (photo 1) the other day and it felt very comfortable and it immediately upgraded my look. I'm not really sure if it's worth buying it in my case since velvet still feels pretty unfamiliar to me, but I definitely like to look at stylings with velvet elements. In my opinion there are exact two different application areas for this unique fabric - blazers and sofas.

Are you a velvet supporter or not?

I am my hair

My hairstyles, cuts and colors over the past 4 years..
Long hair was always my thing until a year ago - I decided to cut off almost 20cm when I was in Seoul for my exchange semester. I was so sick and tired of my ultra long hair (look at the photo where I'm wearing a beanie) and I was seeking a more sophisticated and edgy look. So right after my arrival in Seoul I went to the hairdresser. But to be honest I couldn't let them chop off all my hair right away - yes, I was nervous and insanely scared. I was afraid of getting a new look and for any reason I always thought that short hair wouldn't suit me. So I let my hairdresser trim off 10cm to start my new look. By the end of my stay in South Korea I was getting so fond of my new hair that I cut off more and more and even dyed my hair. The hair trimming was therefore rather a process than one radical step. I dared to change my look and I'm so glad that I did it since I'm not the type who changes hairstyles that often and in a drastic way. Of course, from time to time I long for my long hair but for now I'm pretty content with the length. Right before I came back to Zurich I toned down the hair color a little bit and I'm thinking about getting a new shade..

Do you change your hairstyle often? Have you ever done something radical in order to get a new look?

(I finally(!) started instagram (#miji_b) hoping to be more active and to upload inspiring and more personal photos like Neslihan (#nesdem) already does!)

Sunday's Beauty Post: The best smelling shower gels

I don't know about you but I am one of those types who can't shower quickly. Whether I'm taking a bath or just a shower, I always take my time. One of the best parts of it is that I like to keep things interesting olfactory-wise according to the season. For a long time now I've been obsessed with Le Petit Marseillais shower gels. They keep coming up with new fragrances so I always switch it up. Still can't forget the delicious apricot-basil scented one I used during summer... so fresh and energizing. Right now I'm using the Chestnut & Pistachio one (see below) and am once again totally smitten. Can't wait to try the ones above with Cocoa butter & Sesame as well as Hazelnut Oil & Gelée Royale. With those ingredients they can't be anything but delicious!

I'm off to pamper myself a little this Sunday evening and wish you already a good start to the week..!

Sunday's Recipe: Cinnamon Buns

It's been a long while since my last "Kitchen Heals Soul" post but I've been spending a lot of my free time camera-less in the kitchen, trying out new foreign dishes and baked goods. Initially I was going to make cinnamon buns last weekend but - as it's always the case - unexpected things far less pleasurable than biting into warm delicous delights happen that need to be attended first.

Nothing, not even the almost three hour preparation of these buns could hold me back and I was determined to bake them this Sunday. I had saved this recipe via "Cupcakes & Cashmere" a while ago and followed it exactly, even to measuring and cutting the right size of rectangle. Sometimes I get caught up in stupid details...

If you're used to cooking/baking with US measurements I'll suggest to use the original linked recipe with the instructions. Here's the list of ingredients converted into grams.

Ingredients:

Dough:
250 ml milk
420 gr flour
100 gr sugar
1 large egg
2 envelopes of dry yeast
1 Tsp. salt

Filling:
150 gr brown sugar
60 gr butter
2 Tbsp. cinnamon

Glaze:
115 gr cream cheese
100 gr powdered sugar
60 gr butter
1/2 Tsp. vanilla extract

These were my first homemade cinnamon buns and the recipe yielded two dishes so I froze the remaining buns without glazing them. I'm sure I'll need the comforting cinnamon & sugar on a cold, over-worked morning to heal my soul...

Have a good start to the week!

Friday's Inspiration: Brown Eye Make Up

Source: streetfsn

I'm looking for a brown matte eyeshadow to recreate the looks you can see above. I prefer brown shades over any other color. Right now I'm using a matte dark brown eyeshadow for my lower lash line and I want to find a lighter tone such as a chocolate shade to blend it out and also for the upper lids. I heard that MAC has highly pigmented eyeshadows..Any experience with their eye products? What else could you recommend?

Blair, Serena, Chuck & Dan

Source: freitag.ch

Blair, Serena, Chuck and Dan are the names of the four pouches that FREITAG has launched recently. Every model has a particular size and graphic. You can use them pretty much for everything you want to store away. All products from the Swiss brand are made of used truck tarpaulins. Read our past post to recall their concept!

Geroldstrasse  17, 8005 Zürich

I was actually looking for a big clutch for a longer time now and I think the DAN model has the perfect size. I was intrigued by the thought of using a clutch not only at nighttime but also during the day at school. So this is what's inside my clutch when I'm heading to school! (My netbook fits into the bag, how great is that?!)

Oh and keep your eyes open - we're going to present you further how we bring the pouches into action!
AND A GIVEAWAY WILL BE ON THE BLOG SOON...

Wanderlust

As I promised, here's a quick post to give you some impressions of my stay in Seoul, South Korea. I did an exchange program at the Yonsei University for one semester. Now being back in Zurich it feels like the past 7 months never really happened, it feels surreal. I had an awesome time, I made new friends and precious memories. I feel truly blessed to have had this experience but at the same time it's hard to accept that nothing's forever..It kinda scares me that I want to wander around..again..

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin

..That, or a kick-ass red lipstick. - Gwyneth Paltrow

I used to be the 'I can't leave the house without my eyeliner' girl, but nowadays I'm focused on my lips more than ever. To be more precise I barely leave the house without colored lips. As you can see above I really enjoy violet/fuchsia shades - in the photo I'm wearing L'Oréal Rouge Caresse Rock n Mauve No. 203.

L'Oréal offers now a broader palette of colors of the Rouge Caresse line and even launched a new model called Shine Caresse! This model comes with an applicator, but branding it as a lipgloss would be too easy. It is more a mix of lipstick, gloss and tint. It gives your lips a shiny effect but the color lasts longer such as a tint. Shine Caresse includes eight different shades - guess which one's my fave..?

Shine Caresse from left to right: Milady 402, Eve 400, Marilyn 103, Romy 102, Bonnie 501, Juliet 300
